After two years of intermittent lockdowns, Germans wanted to get out again. 2022 was the first in three years where “city dwellers” could enjoy time with others in public places like city parks - green areas where we knew ticks would lurk. Ticks can transmit the virus of tick-borne-encephalitis (TBE). Germans were not aware of this potential danger zone. By conducting an empirical study and searching city parks for ticks in each federal state, Pfizer delivered a proof point: ticks can be found in urban people’s favorite outdoor spots. Therefore, preventative measures are necessary. One of them: the TBE vaccination.
