Student Movement Against Childhood Diseases - SMACD

Pakistan is one of the two countries where the poliomyelitis virus is still a challenge, in spite of consistent campaigns by the government and international agencies. In 2014 300 cases were reported which came down to 54 in 2015 and 19 in 2016. The major challenge has been the propaganda against the polio campaign by the islamist militant groups. These groups have used violent measures and killed many polio workers and law enforcement personnel protecting them.  In this backdrop we planned an awareness campaign for unicef by recruiting university students who were willing to brave the odds.
