My theme for this year is “empathy”. As President I have empathy for all IPRA members across the globe. And I want to suggest all IPRA members have empathy for each other, their colleagues, and their clients.
Well it has already been a busy January. On the evening of Friday 10 January there was the IPRA Presidency inauguration ceremony in Istanbul at which 2013 President Christophe Ginisty passed over the IPRA presidential chain of office. Attending the ceremony was Charles van der Straten Waillet, president of the IPRA College of Members Emeritus and IPRA’s only two-term president (1991 and 2005). Also there was the “Grande Dame of PR” Betûl Mardin, who was president in 1995 and a long term supporter of the association. Together they both set an example for the new generation of members of our profession.
The following day, 11 January, we held a fruitful Board Meeting in the beautiful surroundings of Sultanahmet, the historical part of Istanbul. At its first meeting of the year the Board, enriched with some new members, agreed to important initiatives on the GWA and the conferences programme for the year. I hope you will be able to join us at these events around the world. Details will follow in future emails. There are always new things to learn from each other.
It is time to roll up our sleeves for The Golden World Awards for Excellence (GWA). The GWA 2014, the most prestigious set of awards in the PR world, is now open for entries. There are awards in over 30 categories with separate slots for agency and in-house. The entries will be first reviewed online and this year’s expert jury will meet in person at the end of June in the Netherlands to select the shortlisted winners.
So start now to send us your very best PR campaigns! We want to know what you have done. And please note we need them latest by May.
My theme for this year is “empathy”. As President I have empathy for all IPRA members across the globe. And I want to suggest all IPRA members have empathy for each other, their colleagues, and their clients. Whatever we do for communication, we need to put ourselves in our colleagues’ shoes. How do they hear our communication and react to our management style? 2014 - a year of empathy in communication.
And to start that, please spread the word about IPRA to colleagues and clients. Make it your target to get one colleague or associate to join this month.Write to me, lets talk.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Zehra Güngör
IPRA President 2014
