Message from the IPRA President: Redefining the Future September 2024

Dear friends and colleagues,

This month from 20-23 September the United Nations is organising the Summit of the Future. This event will bring world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how we safeguard the future. They describe it as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to mend eroded trust”. It is timely to have this summit which seeks to refresh the UN’s sustainability goals. These goals are known collectively as 17 Goals to Transform our World.

But what does it mean?

It all sounds most impressive and inspiring, but it does pose some major questions. Who is it that will shape our future? How will they do so? Is it the near future or the future of the next generation?

The Summit, rightly so for the UN, is inviting leaders who can direct action top-down in their countries. But that doesn’t mean that we should not be a part of the idea. So, if no one told you before, let it be me. Our future depends on you. It is about things that you are doing today. It is about things that you are not doing today.

Let’s consider personal goals

The UN already has a programme to record and showcase how personal actions can make a difference. The programme is called UN Challenge: #OurCommonFuture and its results can be seen here. The programme has surpassed its goal of reaching 1 million actions ahead of the Summit of the Future. And we can all still add ideas.

From the Summit to the apex of PR Awards

The Golden World Awards competition frequently showcases PR programmes that are in line with the UN 17 Goals to Transform our World. Moreover, in October in my home city we will announce not just the 2024 Grand Prix but the Global Contribution Award for the best campaign in pursuit of one of these goals.

The IPRA Golden World Awards for Excellence awards ceremony and Gala dinner will take place at 19.15 on Friday 18 October 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia. The Gala will be at the Metropol Palace Hotel. The Gala is open to all GWA winners past and present, IPRA members and friends. The hotel is in the centre of Belgrade near to the tourist sites such as the electrifying Nikola Tesla Museum. The Gala is an event like no other. It is fun and a great opportunity to network with other winners, meet the IPRA Board, and have fun for the rest of the weekend. Book tickets and the hotel at an IPRA discount via our website here. I look forward to welcoming all our 2024 winners, as well as past winners and IPRA members and freinds.

Kind regards,

Nataša Pavlović Bujas

IPRA President 2024
