IPRA strengthens ties at UN New York

(Comments)

IPRA’s representatives recently participated in briefings in New York. Jim McQueeny oversaw IPRA's co-sponsorship of the 75th anniversary of The Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations. The event UN-NGO Relations: enhancing multilateralism, protecting NGO access, civic space and democratic discourse was a celebration of work to improve NGO access to the UN. Also discussed by the NGOs present was what is working, what needs to be improved, and how participating NGOs can mutually cooperate.

Meanwhile IPRA’s Matthew Cossel participated in a UN Civil Society Communications Workshop entitled Digital communications and its impact on peace, security and human rights. The event included a presentation from Mita Hosali, deputy director of the UN News and Media Division, launching a new UN News App.

Since the 1980s IPRA has maintained a relationship with various agencies of the UN including the Department of Global Communications, the Economic and Social Council, the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation and more recently, the UN Environment Programme.

Background to IPRA

IPRA, the International Public Relations Association, was established in 1955, and is the leading global network for PR professionals in their personal capacity. IPRA aims to advance trusted communication and the ethical practice of public relations. We do this through networking, our code of conduct and intellectual leadership of the profession. IPRA is the organiser of public relations' annual global competition, the Golden World Awards for Excellence (GWA). IPRA's services enable PR professionals to collaborate and be recognised. Members create content via our Thought Leadership essays, social media and our consultative status with the United Nations. GWA winners demonstrate PR excellence. IPRA welcomes all those who share our aims and who wish to be part of the IPRA worldwide fellowship. For more see www.ipra.org
