Invitation to an IPRA webinar on Populism and crisis response: the Morandi Bridge collapse: 11 July 2024

(Comments)

I am pleased to invite you to the next in the series of IPRA Thought Leadership webinars. The webinar Populism and crisis response: the Morandi Bridge collapse will be presented by Luciano Luffarelli on Thursday 11 July 2024 at 12.00 GMT/UCT (unadjusted).

What is the webinar content?

In August, 2018, the Ponte Morandi Bridge collapsed, killing 43 people. The bridge’s managing company was immediately blamed for lack of maintenance and there was a poor media response. However, there was more than just a case of mismanaged crisis communication: Italy’s populistic ruling parties used social media to amplify public outrage, dragging into the crisis also its shareholders, the Benetton family, and the entire corporate Italy.
